Here is Part II of my Old School Strength Inspired Sandbag Workout. Part I, was inspired by The Mighty Hermann Goerner. Part II, still inspired by Hermann Goerner, but also inspired by Coach Ethan Reeve. Coach Reeve told me about a workout he did several years ago when I was down in North Carolina to speak at The NC State Strength Coaches Clinic. He did 100 D Ball sandball shouldering reps for BEST time. Coach Reeve was performing "Density Training" back in the early 70's when he … [Read more...]

I train very much by feel, allowing my emotions to drive me. If I'm feeling fired up I wanna rip into some heavy barbell work. If I'm feeling in a soul lifter type mood, it will likely be lots of bodyweight and outdoor training. Here's a bit of an angry day, we ALL have em' :) Question for You: Let me know what YOU do and HOW you train when you are having "One of those Days." 3 Lessons From Human – Gorilla Hybrids, aka Freaks of Strength
I am inspired to write this Blog greatly because of two men, both of whom I speak of often: Jonny Hinds, Owner of The Monkey Bar Gym, who will also be presenting at The Underground Strength Gym in Edison in October (stay tuned for this announcement). Rick Gonzales, my infamous college Gymnastics Coach. These men have the seamless strength of Gorillas. They move their bodies through space and perform bodyweight strength exercises that are extremely challenging, yet they show such tight … [Read more...]

Monday Motivation: How Bad Do You REALLY Want It?
I am a highly motivated Coach. I feel this is a fault, perhaps not though? You can comment below and drop your thoughts as my mind wanders too much. I find myself louder, more aggressive and more intense than 99.9% of my athletes. I want them to train harder, rest less, move heavier weights. I sometimes wonder why I am so loud and excited and they seem so quiet. I try to calm down and let them take the wheel. I wait to see if they will have intrinsic motivation. A few are animals and show the … [Read more...]
7 Ways to Keep Your Edge and Become a Gladiator
There are times when you think you're training hard. Soon, someone else comes along and pushed you outside your comfort zone. Suddenly you're not as strong, as fast or as tough as you thought you were. It's happened to me and still does to this very day. But, this is why I do it. I need to keep my edge, I FEAR losing it. There are ALWAYS holes in your armor. I've been exposed to plenty of new methods lately and some of them have busted me up. Some are me simply going back to where I … [Read more...]
Underground Bodyweight Workout Challenge
I've been to a LOT of wrestling clubs and worked with a LOT of wrestling teams. I used to be shocked and even angered seeing how wrestlers were NOT performing ONE good push up: full range of motion, neck and entire body aligned, tight abs.... How the hell can a wrestler be unable to perform the bread and butter basic exercise that EVERY athlete should be cranking? The Great Dan Gable would lose his mind if he saw this. Bodyweight Training is extremely powerful when implemented properly. … [Read more...]
World’s Strongest Athlete 2010, Memories, Gratitude & Times Ahead
Team Underground has been competing in Strongman Competitions held by Joe DeFranco since Day 1. I believe the first one was 4 years ago in the parking lot of Joe's Gym. It was held after an Elite FTS Seminar where Jim Wendler & Dave Tate were present. I still remember getting a 600 lb tire 3 or 4 days before the event so our guys could practice the tire flip. The tire was old and grimy and the guys couldn't even grip the tire. It was the beginning stages of The Underground Strength Gym … [Read more...]

The Underground Kettlebell Assault
What can I say, I LOVE Kettlebell training. I've loved them since the day I started ripping into them in my bare bones garage when I first started the creation of The Underground Strength Gym. Every Kettlebell workout kicked my ass and pushed me unlike any other training tool I ever used. I love the fact that you can use Kettlebells in countless ways: throw them, press, row, squat, push and pull. Use one or two kettlebells, take them with you for a workout at the park, your backyard, … [Read more...]
