Save BIG on Mother’s Day
As a husband, a father, and of course, first and foremost, a son to my mother, Mother's Day has take on new meaning to me. It's a BIG deal. If you've been reading my Blog, you know how proud I am to be a father, and how seriously I take it. Without my mother, without my wife....things would be quite different around here. As challenging as it is to balance all of these amazing things in my life I am very, very blessed. And, I need to make sure I kick some serious ass for my wife this Mother's … [Read more...]
Endless Lessons Learned from The Underground aka “Old School” Bodybuilding & Strength Training Methods
In the 50s and 60s, strength sports were a small "Underground" cult. Even in the 70s. Until Arnold hit the big screen, bodybuilding and literally building your body was viewed as something only a narcissist would do. Today, of course, being strong, fit and healthy is viewed as "normal". I have been getting back to my roots lately, even with my time crunched workouts, I'm hitting the underground bodybuilding methods and it's paying off big time. When I use the term "Underground", those early … [Read more...]

he trained with me in my Dad’s garage
Wow, those were some wild days. Back when I FIRST began taking on clients as a profession, a five bucks per hour profession none the less :) I was training a few athletes from my Dad's garage, his backyard and the local parks. At the time, Kurt, was a high school basketball player. His Dad owned a truck and I offered to train him all summer for free if he can help me pick up some gym equipment. I purchased a long dumbbell rack, a chin - dip combo bar, a boat load of rusty ivanko … [Read more...]
LIFT STRONG Fundraiser – You In?
This Saturday, our LIFT Strong fundraiser is going down. The competition will be heated and anyone who doesn't have the eye of the tiger is lunch meat for the rest, it's that simple. There will be lots of spectators, so remember, you're also invited :) The Events Will Be: … [Read more...]
a night at the movies with Joe DeFranco
Wow, what a night Thursday was.... Sorry for the delay on this, I've been pretty wiped out since Thursday night :) Stay tuned though, because I will have some cool trip footage of my times Thursday night to be posted here on the Blog :) If you haven't heard, last Spring and Summer a film crew was recording every second of action at Joe D's place and it was churned out and whipped into an amazing documentary. I'm tlaking about the stuff you've seen in Pumping Iron, except there is … [Read more...]
Look in the mirror, dig deep…
As the world becomes a busier and busier place for so many of us, it seems that rather than think for ourselves, and do what is best for us, too many people blindly copy other materials. I'm talking about copying someone else's workout, rather than take bits and pieces of what works for you. I'm also talking about the endless information on the web. Watch me write about a topic and rather than a fellow strength coach create his own idea, he takes the words right from my pages without his own … [Read more...]
stories of eatin’ clean and trainin’ mean
I think it's much easier than people make it when it comes to getting stronger, adding muscle and getting faster....and I mean getting these results FAST! Make no mistake regarding "easy" and "simple". Easy is walking in the park...simple is hitting one arm rows with 150's for 10 reps per hand without wrist straps. Even simpler is a set of squats for 15 - 20 reps....but damn are the results amazing! We have our athletes on a system of training that just keeps on dishing out results, and … [Read more...]
lessons of wolf and man
A few weeks ago one of my clients saw me training before they were about to tear it up. I had about 15 minutes so I tore through some heavy power cleans supersetted with ring dips. He knew I was ALSO going to train at the end of the night to finish off where I left off. He asked me, "Don't you feel exhausted and weak at the end of your work day, after so many hours of work plus the workout you're doing?" … [Read more...]
