There are some men who REALLY have my respect, a very rare few. Jim Wendler is one of those guys, and, every time we chat I am reminded why. We're both very simple men. We chase strength and train because we understand that man is supposed to be strong and if you're a Dad, then you need to be even stronger, inside and out. You train your body to prepare your mind for life and any craziness that might be thrown your way. When other men crumble under the pressure and stress, you thrive and … [Read more...]
Short On Time Workouts
Sometimes, time just ain't on your side. You have two choices when this happens: 1) Skip your workout and come back the next time. More often than not, your excuse will NOT be valid, it will only validate the fact that you're an excuse maker and did NOT act on opportunity when opportunity presented itself to you. You contribute to the pussification of Man kind here and it's suggested you avoid this at ALL costs. 2) Lock down your workout and attack with only 1 or 2 … [Read more...]
When Giants Roamed the Earth
Original Article by Jeff Everson Excerpt from the book 'Forgotten Secrets of The Culver City Westside Barbell Club' by Dave Yarnell. Before the last epoch of the Cenozoic era, some 65 million years ago, great beasts roamed the earth. These ponderous dinosaurs weighed as much as 100 tons and were over 120 feet long. Some had teeth the size of a child. Most had brains the size of an egg. The dinosaurs died out and were replaced by a higher form of life. Likewise, at one point in time (the late … [Read more...]

Put em' all together and you've got yourself a BEAST Well, I think that Hurricane Irene has passed through Manasquan, NJ now. Yesterday I cranked a bodyweight workout IN my garage and it was awesome. The TRUTH About Bodyweight Workouts
Franco Columbu was a BEAST when it came to pull ups. He cranked them from all angles AND added weight to them as well. High reps AND low reps. Reminds me of my OLD Bodybuilding training partner.... We almost always began our workouts with chins and progressed to weighted chins. He would build up to chin ups with THREE 45 lb plates strapped to a weight belt. His back was THICK! It freaked people out! Heavy Chins and HEAVY barbell rows were his ticket. Back to the legend of Franco … [Read more...]

Lessons From Golden Era Bodyweight Bodybuilding Workouts & Marvin Eder
This post was inspired from my time spent reading the old books of bodybuilding where the greats from the 50s, 60s and 70s spoke often about all the high rep bodyweight training they did. Hundreds of sit ups and crunches every training session. 100 Pull Ups on back day / back workouts. 100 Push Ups for the warm up. These men from back in the day had physiques that were carved from stone. They had what many call today as "functional strength". Many of these men worked manual labor jobs by … [Read more...]
Bodyweight Workout For Size & Strength Using The “Ladder Technique”
I've spoken often about using the "ladder technique" with my Bodyweight Bodybuilding training course, but also with Kettlebell Workouts and sometimes with deadlifts as well and had great success. The ladder technique is a powerful way to increase your strength, pack on muscle and if used with an aggressive pace, you will also improve cardio and stimulate fat loss. Here's how I train when using ladders with bodyweight exercises: … [Read more...]
2 Things Every Man Should Do
As much as I LOVE bodyweight training I still use the deadlift and the squat in some form of another with added weight. When I bail on deadlifts and squats my legs get WEAK, and as a man, I have NO room for weakness. The squats and deads help me run faster and jump higher. Running is NOT my forte so anything that helps with my runs is a plus in my book. Even if you don't squat or deadlift till your eye balls pop out of your head, that's fine, the main thing is that you do "The Thing". In Pavel's … [Read more...]
