I recall my high school years of training for hours on end. I would get dropped off at the gym and literally live there until the gym would almost close. Endless hours of training seemed "normal" to me. Everyone has a different sense of "normal" and I try my best not to judge but I have a difficult time relating to those who make endless excuses. I would always have different training partners because I would get frustrated with others and looking back, I was also frustrated with … [Read more...]
Don’t Complicate Your Training: Strong is STRONG & Training is TRAINING
Training doesn't need to be complicated to be effective. Growing up in the 80s and 90s gave me insight to the times of YMCA weight rooms filled with York Barbell Equipment and men who were built like brick sh*t houses. I got to see a state championship Football team crushing the basics in a dump of a weight room while playing The Rocky IV soundtrack day after day. Their success was NO accident: They crushed the basics with consistency AND intensity. I saw my Wrestling Coach doing 10 sets of … [Read more...]
Joe DeSena | How to Be Happy, Tough & Successful
STRONG Life Episode 111 with my man Joe DeSena, SPARTAN Race CEO. As always, chatting with Joe is inspiring to another level and then some! Joe was in Tokyo while I was in NJ during this call. Before we got to recording Joe was telling me about the Japanese wrestling culture, how they all train for 5-6 hours a day and how the girls are VERY tough. Joe always has his wheels turning so he discussed getting a documentary and we moved forward by connecting him with a film producer … [Read more...]
QnA | Underground Strength Gym Franchise | Clawing for Inches
I try to hit home to people that I am a normal dude. NO special talents. Never had a long list of accomplishments, but, as I've gotten older and gained more life experience, I learn the advantage of what I call staying power. Staying Power is for the guy or girl who NEVER quits. Or, you fall, mess up, go backwards perhaps, but, you still get UP and keep Pushing Forward. As always, I Ain't Got Time to Be Weak, both in the gym AND in life. Here are some random thoughts via questions and … [Read more...]
How to Use Barbell Basics Strength Training For The WIN
It was 1990, The Summer after freshman year and I was finishing up my days traveling to the Metuchen YMCA. At the time, the weight room was down stairs, a small dungeon filled with York Barbell Weights, a York Isometric rack and a small radio where the big guys allowed me to bring in my cassette tape to play hard rock music. I knew these were my last days at The Y as construction was in full swing and a new weight room was coming. The few who trained at The Y were big guys. It was a small … [Read more...]

WHY Life Is GOOD!!
Sometimes I catch myself complaining or pulling an ol' "poor me" conversation in my head and man, it gets me fired UP! The conversation in my head sounds so weak it is pathetic. I realize how weak it is to complain when other people complain to me about things that don't effect anyone, including the complainer. When life gets too easy, you start complaining about nonsense. When life gets too easy, you begin forming opinions about topics that you are not even remotely qualified to talk … [Read more...]

Age Doesn’t Matter: STRONGER, Faster, Tougher STRENGTH Tips
In a world filled with entitlement, excuses and complainers, NOW more than ever is the time to spread the word on being STRONGER both in and out of the gym. Every time I hear someone complaining about something trivial, something that has ZERO effect on their own life, I feel like I need to drag them to the gym for some Squats and Deadlifts. Or they need to carry groceries home for a few miles rather than driving in their air conditioned car. Too Much Comfort = Too Many Complainers. Manual … [Read more...]
Turning Pro, Regardless of WHO You Are & What You Do
Why do I send e mails every morning? Because only writing e mails when I feel like it is the sign of an amateur. Yesterday while doing a Instagram Live I was asked how and why I am still so fired up and motivated, even after almost 30 years of training. My answer was nothing flashy, so here it is..... … [Read more...]
