Training In Your 40s & Strength Coach Start Up Tips
I can't believe I am writing an article about "Training in your 40s"..... I remember training in my teens and 20s. The saying Time goes fast is a severe understatement! The Ultimate Warrior used to tell me that he would give a handful of his years to go back to his 20s and "Feel that f--in' Power!" That being said, training in your 40s is different for everyone. I've been training since age 13 so the mileage of hard and heavy training has beaten me up. If you're in your 40s and haven't done … [Read more...]
WHO Are YOU? The Man In The Arena vs The Spectator
I've been doing some soul searching lately and I will likely do less putting info "out there" such as videos, instagram, etc and more focusing on grounding on myself. My energy gets pulled when I frequently catch myself more dedicated to the very things that the person on the other end of the line needs to be dedicated to. Rather than continue down a road of disappointment and frustration, I will let things be the way they are. Not everyone wants it. Not everyone has the desire to be … [Read more...]
Deadlifts, Westside Barbell & REFUSING TO BE AVERAGE
There's running a business and then there's the fire in your heart that has NOTHING to do with your business. Here's some intense thoughts on: The athletes I train / don't want to train The influence Louie Simmons has had on me Inspiration from the upcoming documentary, Westside vs The World Finding a Way to Run a Business Doing ONLY What You Love Would I still train athletes if I won the lottery? … [Read more...]
Mental Toughness Workouts for Peace of Mind
I recall my high school years of training for hours on end. I would get dropped off at the gym and literally live there until the gym would almost close. Endless hours of training seemed "normal" to me. Everyone has a different sense of "normal" and I try my best not to judge but I have a difficult time relating to those who make endless excuses. I would always have different training partners because I would get frustrated with others and looking back, I was also frustrated with … [Read more...]
Don’t Complicate Your Training: Strong is STRONG & Training is TRAINING
Training doesn't need to be complicated to be effective. Growing up in the 80s and 90s gave me insight to the times of YMCA weight rooms filled with York Barbell Equipment and men who were built like brick sh*t houses. I got to see a state championship Football team crushing the basics in a dump of a weight room while playing The Rocky IV soundtrack day after day. Their success was NO accident: They crushed the basics with consistency AND intensity. I saw my Wrestling Coach doing 10 sets of … [Read more...]
Joe DeSena | How to Be Happy, Tough & Successful
STRONG Life Episode 111 with my man Joe DeSena, SPARTAN Race CEO. As always, chatting with Joe is inspiring to another level and then some! Joe was in Tokyo while I was in NJ during this call. Before we got to recording Joe was telling me about the Japanese wrestling culture, how they all train for 5-6 hours a day and how the girls are VERY tough. Joe always has his wheels turning so he discussed getting a documentary and we moved forward by connecting him with a film producer … [Read more...]
How to Use Barbell Basics Strength Training For The WIN
It was 1990, The Summer after freshman year and I was finishing up my days traveling to the Metuchen YMCA. At the time, the weight room was down stairs, a small dungeon filled with York Barbell Weights, a York Isometric rack and a small radio where the big guys allowed me to bring in my cassette tape to play hard rock music. I knew these were my last days at The Y as construction was in full swing and a new weight room was coming. The few who trained at The Y were big guys. It was a small … [Read more...]

Age Doesn’t Matter: STRONGER, Faster, Tougher STRENGTH Tips
In a world filled with entitlement, excuses and complainers, NOW more than ever is the time to spread the word on being STRONGER both in and out of the gym. Every time I hear someone complaining about something trivial, something that has ZERO effect on their own life, I feel like I need to drag them to the gym for some Squats and Deadlifts. Or they need to carry groceries home for a few miles rather than driving in their air conditioned car. Too Much Comfort = Too Many Complainers. Manual … [Read more...]
