Here we go, another one of my "deep" posts for you. I hope this will make you think and take action. You see, about 1 1/2 years ago I was having dinner at my friends home in Florida, Ryan Lee. We were speaking about my readiness to open a gym so I can do what I love most, which is training athletes, especially young athletes, and getting them STRONG. I love the internet, but, I need fresh air, I need to wrap my hands around iron and sweat like my athletes do. He told me to do what I … [Read more...]
Lucky? I don’t think so!
My wife was watching FOX news a few hours ago and I caught a few minutes with her. I'm not a big news watcher, too much negativity for me. The interesting thing that caught my attention was the guest they had on the show who was the founder for the NAAO, National Action Against Obesity. The newscaster was trying to make her feel bad about the entire airplane seating debate for being obese and how some people are big bones, etc, etc. ALL the excuses were raining down and MeMe Roth stayed tough … [Read more...]
In the back of a truck…
At one point in time, my "gym equipment" was very little, and it all fit into the back of my SUV....with plenty of room to boot :) I used three training tools and if I was limited to these 3 things I would still be able to develop bad ass athletes and awesome strength, power and conditioning for myself. … [Read more...]
Ancient Strongman Training
Lifting odd objects has been around for ages. I have books from the mid 1800's that show men lifting sandbags, stones, bars with cemented stones on the ends, ice blocks with handles and other muscle and strength building movements that would shock onlookers of today. The great thing is, this style of training requires no gym membership, and trust me, I have heard some of the music being played in these gyms! I bought a protein shake from a gym and heard a song "pumping"....''Don't be cruel, to … [Read more...]
Training with a Navy SEAL
About 15 years ago I was training a bit with a Navy SEAL. He was in Israel at the time, but eventually came to the states. His training regiment was brutal. Three days a week he ran a good 10 km or more. My brother would run with him since he was in the military as well, in a unit called "The Cherries". He told me these were not jogs, but all out races and "Joe" was out to win, every single time. The other three days Joe would swim a good 30 minutes. Sometimes a pool swim, other times … [Read more...]
Poker or Chase the Dream?
I was at a coffee shop one day and the guy working there saw my Underground shirt on. He told me he saw us on you tube, heard about us, saw us in the paper. He told me he was trying out for the nearby minor league Baseball team, but he never made the cut the year before. He was a skinny dude, no doubt, so, I asked him, what are you doing now to change that? … [Read more...]
The 80/20 rule
Tim Ferriss encourages the 80/20 rule like a beast to keep your business kicking ass. It simply means 80 % of your results often come from 20% of your actions. He's correct. Now it's time to apply these rules to getting ripped, getting stronger and getting in better condition. This rule is basically telling us that much of what we do can be wasted time, maybe, possibly, perhaps? YES. I feel the same rule applies with your training. How many movements are REALLY helping you get where you … [Read more...]

Look in the mirror, dig deep…
As the world becomes a busier and busier place for so many of us, it seems that rather than think for ourselves, and do what is best for us, too many people blindly copy other materials. I'm talking about copying someone else's workout, rather than take bits and pieces of what works for you. I'm also talking about the endless information on the web. Watch me write about a topic and rather than a fellow strength coach create his own idea, he takes the words right from my pages without his own … [Read more...]
stories of eatin’ clean and trainin’ mean
I think it's much easier than people make it when it comes to getting stronger, adding muscle and getting faster....and I mean getting these results FAST! Make no mistake regarding "easy" and "simple". Easy is walking in the park...simple is hitting one arm rows with 150's for 10 reps per hand without wrist straps. Even simpler is a set of squats for 15 - 20 reps....but damn are the results amazing! We have our athletes on a system of training that just keeps on dishing out results, and … [Read more...]
