Interview with Sean Hyson Co-Creator of 'How To Get Published - Writing Domination In The Fitness Industry' Back around 2004 or so when I was training wrestlers & football players out of my garage I was also writing for Men's Fitness. I also had a successful blog (using blogspot.com - ha ha) and various training products being sold on line. Yet here we are, it's 2012 with technology and communication advancing faster than ever before, making it easier than ever before to be … [Read more...]
Interview With Navy SEAL, Brad McLeod – Part III
1) How have you applied the lessons you've learned as a Navy SEAL to succeed in other areas of your life? That is a good question, Zach, as those lessons have been my guiding light in years that followed. I learned how not to quit at BUD/S. As you know I went through BUD/S twice so I had many times where I could have quit but I chose not to. … [Read more...]
Grease The Groove (GTG) For Greater Strength [Training for Life]
Grease The Groove is a technique I learned many years ago when reading a book from Pavel, Power To The People. Essentially, you perform an exercise of choice several times a day, several times a week (4 - 7 x week), each and every set performed when you are fresh without going to muscular fatigue. Usually, this works best when performing the practice exercise for anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks. There are several ways to apply Grease The groove (GTG) for maximum effect. … [Read more...]

The TRUTH About Heavy Lifting & Building Muscle
I was scared to go to this one gym. I felt I had to earn my way into training there. I wanted to be at least somewhat respected when I got there. The bodybuilders from that gym were winning all the major bodybuilding shows not just on a state level but also nationally. When I finally made the trek to this gym, the proof was not just what happened on the bodybuilding stage, but in how they ALL trained. They ALL lifted heavy. I saw countless bodybuilders incline bench 315 lbs for 6 - 8 reps. … [Read more...]

Tire Flip Instruction – Strongman Training Technique
After our recent Lift STRONG fundraiser, benefiting Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundation, I saw how countless athletes had NO clue how to properly flip the tire, especially the heavier, 600 lb tire. Even the guys who were built like brick shit houses were often found wrestling and failing to flip the 600 lb tire. Learning HOW to use your strength is critical if you want to be successful as an athlete. This is what we call "functional strength" - can your gym strength be used to apply OUTSIDE … [Read more...]
Are Box Squats Better Than Olympic Style Squats
The past year or so we've gotten away from box squats at our gym. Is it the BEST answer? In Strength & Performance, there are BETTER answers but not always "the best" answers. I recall having ONE kid, who could box squat over 405. But.... there were flaws. The box was set a bit high as he would squat with guys taller than him. At the time, we had a 50/50 mix of free squats vs box squats. When this kid tried to free squat 315 he got CRUSHED. … [Read more...]
The Truth About Sport Specific Training
When I first began to heavily research the training of athletes, the BIG Buzz words were "functional training" and "sport specific training". Everyone and their Mom was training on one leg, using a stability ball, insisted on using pieces of equipment called "functional trainers" - which usually cost between 5 and 10 thousand dollars. Mind you, this was before you tube came about.... hell, I'm not even sure Google existed at the time.... ha ha I was brainwashed into thinking those people were … [Read more...]
