With my injury in my ankle and achilles I was doing some slower, heavy lifting workouts. I was hitting PRs and very focused on the moving big weights in the squat, bench, deadlift and clean. But, I wasn't satisfied. I wanted MORE intensity, MORE pain, MORE discomfort. Why? Because THAT is exactly where I find my comfort. I find my comfort in the DIS-comfort. It lets me know I am alive. It reminds me that I am STRONG and NOT weak, physically and mentally. I am having a very difficult time … [Read more...]

Life & Lifting Lessons Learned In Cali

As always, my time goes too fast and I missed out on connecting with a … [Read more...]

I had watched the videos for years and years, before I even owned my warehouse for The Underground I had seen guys killing weights in Smelly's gym. I had never deadlifted with bands from a platform before and I was feeling run down from all the flying and sleep deprivation. My thoughts started … [Read more...]
The Problem with Perfect Workouts & Weak People
I often wonder how a Strength Coach thinks in his early days of coaching athletes. For me, when I began training athletes, I was viewed as an outcast. Seriously...... Coaches were training on Bosu Balls, using the Functional Trainer cable, wearing collared shirts tucked in all neat and there I was, having kids carrying stones, pushing trucks and sprinting up hills. In my concerns, I had a friend send me his training program for a wrestler. He was a highly certified Coach with all the letters … [Read more...]
