by Zach Even - Esh 3 Comments

STRONG Life Podcast ep. 194. What is the best way to train during those high stress, super busy times in life? I've been there done that and sometimes, those days return. The Iron NEVER Lies

by Zach Even - Esh 8 Comments

It was just me and my best Dude. My son. We were going out to eat that night with our friends and I remembered what kind of person I was last time I missed my workout. I wasn't the most pleasant person to be around, let's put it that way. I knew if I could get in a few deadlifts and some calisthenics I would tame my inner animal for at least the next few hours. My son was with me and we had less than 20 minutes to spare. He went into the office and turned on the TV. It reminded me of Henry … [Read more...]

Top 5 Benefits Of Minimalist Style Workouts

by Zach Even - Esh 20 Comments

"Simplicity Is The Key To Brilliance" - Bruce Lee I was driving up to Diamond Gym on a cold winter night. It was just past 5 PM and I was sitting in a boat load of traffic, literally, moving nowhere. I was stressed out of my mind, up to my ears in work for Grad School, teaching, coaching wrestling and trying to manage it all. It was the FIRST time in my life I was truly finding it difficult to find the time to train.... … [Read more...]

3 Rules For Short, Effective Workouts

by Zach Even - Esh 17 Comments

Workouts don't have to be long to be effective. Trust me, I KNOW. I used to spend 90 - 120 minutes in the gym each and every workout. Back in high school, it wasn't odd for me to be there longer than 2 hours every training session. That long and endless style of training doesn't work, especially when you actually have half a life. Here are 3 ways you can get more results from your workouts in at least Half the time Once again, these are simple tips, NOT easy tips. Results take WORK. … [Read more...]

REAL Man Muscle Building Ain’t No Joke!

by Zach Even - Esh 1 Comment

At the end of a LONG day at The Underground Strength Gym, Canada's Pro Strongman, Paul Vaillancourt, stopped by the gym today with his entourage. With plans of stopping by for 5 PM they got lost in the Dirty Jerzee and enjoyed some scenery in what some call the ghetto, others call the projects - not a fun place to be driving through with a mini van, a fauly GPS and not a clue as to where the heck you're going! We talked biz and training for 10 minutes and I was itching to train. Before … [Read more...]

Try this quicky…

by Zach Even - Esh Leave a Comment

Short on time and low on equipment? All you need is a dumbbell or a kettlebell. Try this workout I cranked out the other day in my backyard! I used an olympic dumbbell weighing 75 lbs. Pick a weight that works for you. 1) 1 arm snatch x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 2) 1 arm push press x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ** Try to switch arms on dumbbell movements without rest. For example, perform 5 reps per arm, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 each arm without ever placing the dumbbell down! 3) broad jumps … [Read more...]
