Training Around Injuries + My Full Meniscus Repair
I've been around athletes for 25+ years now. The year was 1993 and I was a senior in high school. During practice my R knee swelled up to the size of a softball. I limped to the team locker room and took off my knee pad. My Coach came in a few minutes after to check on me and caught me crying. I wasn't crying from pain. I was crying … [Read more...]

Training Around Injuries VS Making Excuses
What did I do 2 days after shoulder surgery? I went straight to my gym. I set up a mini band and worked BOTH arms, even my arm that was wrapped up and in a few stitches. The other option? Sit home. Sit on the couch. Watch TV. Feel sorry for myself, crying "boohoo, someone help me...." It doesn't work that way. Help yourself. If you're a hard charging lifter, athlete or a Strength Coach, pay attention.... … [Read more...]
Training Around & After Injuries / Surgeries
I began training consistently dating back to June 1989. My body has amassed a lot of mileage. I've experience my fair share of injuries and surgeries. I am often asked how to work around injuries or how to build back up post surgery. Legal Mumbo Jumbo: I am not a Doctor or Physical Therapist nor do I play one on TV. Seek a Medical Expert first & foremost and all I discuss below if based on my OWN experience and may or may not work for you. … [Read more...]
Underground Strength QnA: Tire Flips & Training With Injuries
Got some cool questions that I wanna crank out via the Blog. Check em' below as these questions come in often. Enjoy! Q: Hi Zach! My Name is Mark and I live on Cape Cod. If you have a minute I wanted to ask you about tire flipping. 4 of us from my affiliate competed in a Crossfit Competition today and there was a 1000 pound tire-at least that's what they told us it weighed. Any way no one from my team has flipped the tire before and we couldn't even get the thing off the ground. … [Read more...]
