My wife was watching FOX news a few hours ago and I caught a few minutes with her. I'm not a big news watcher, too much negativity for me. The interesting thing that caught my attention was the guest they had on the show who was the founder for the NAAO, National Action Against Obesity. The newscaster was trying to make her feel bad about the entire airplane seating debate for being obese and how some people are big bones, etc, etc. ALL the excuses were raining down and MeMe Roth stayed tough … [Read more...]

Who the hell are these guys?
Who knows what the heck is gonna happen when Steve Maxwell and I get together on July 12, for The Gladiator Seminar. With both of us living on opposite ends of the country, this will likely never happen again. With unique and different views on physical culture, we'll be bringing some serious madness to the table and if you're able to see what we do, you're going to one of the few who take our methods to a whole new level for yourself and / or your business. See you at The Underground! In … [Read more...]
The 80/20 rule
Tim Ferriss encourages the 80/20 rule like a beast to keep your business kicking ass. It simply means 80 % of your results often come from 20% of your actions. He's correct. Now it's time to apply these rules to getting ripped, getting stronger and getting in better condition. This rule is basically telling us that much of what we do can be wasted time, maybe, possibly, perhaps? YES. I feel the same rule applies with your training. How many movements are REALLY helping you get where you … [Read more...]
Time for change
Change can be a good thing. I am feeling a need for change. It starts from a point much deeper than my emotions, it's just a Gut feeling I have. I find myself running home rather than driving home. I begin removing favorites such as squats and deadlifts, and return to a lot of bodyweight training, kettlebell workouts, sandbags and sledge hammers. Sprinting becomes more common place, as does jumping, dragging sleds and running with the prowler. Removing breads, milk and dairy from … [Read more...]
Endless Lessons Learned from The Underground aka “Old School” Bodybuilding & Strength Training Methods
In the 50s and 60s, strength sports were a small "Underground" cult. Even in the 70s. Until Arnold hit the big screen, bodybuilding and literally building your body was viewed as something only a narcissist would do. Today, of course, being strong, fit and healthy is viewed as "normal". I have been getting back to my roots lately, even with my time crunched workouts, I'm hitting the underground bodybuilding methods and it's paying off big time. When I use the term "Underground", those early … [Read more...]
Another most inspirational video!
This was passed on to me by a close friend and actually my first ever business coach, Jim Labadie. Between this video and seeing Joe D's movie premiere, things are about to radically change for me. I hope you're on the path of finding yourself as well :) Enjoy.... … [Read more...]
a night at the movies with Joe DeFranco
Wow, what a night Thursday was.... Sorry for the delay on this, I've been pretty wiped out since Thursday night :) Stay tuned though, because I will have some cool trip footage of my times Thursday night to be posted here on the Blog :) If you haven't heard, last Spring and Summer a film crew was recording every second of action at Joe D's place and it was churned out and whipped into an amazing documentary. I'm tlaking about the stuff you've seen in Pumping Iron, except there is … [Read more...]
stories of eatin’ clean and trainin’ mean
I think it's much easier than people make it when it comes to getting stronger, adding muscle and getting faster....and I mean getting these results FAST! Make no mistake regarding "easy" and "simple". Easy is walking in the park...simple is hitting one arm rows with 150's for 10 reps per hand without wrist straps. Even simpler is a set of squats for 15 - 20 reps....but damn are the results amazing! We have our athletes on a system of training that just keeps on dishing out results, and … [Read more...]
the trail blazer
Time for some action. Time to do it your way, finally, not anyone else's way. Seriously. Stop doing what you see everyone else doing. Stop copying the concentration curls, the lat pull downs, the smith machine presses....everything performed seated of course. Every workout does NOT have to be the perfect balance of push / pull, or upper / lower body work. Who ever said that everything must be in total harmony and balance is full of it. Ask the guys in the pen about balance and … [Read more...]
Apollo’s “TOUGH Gym”
Original Article Date: 4/1/2008 Updated: 2/4/2024 Have you ever seen Rocky III where Apollo takes Rocky back to the old school gym he used to train at where everyone has the "Eye of the Tiger"? TOUGH GYM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peBGvS0VGr4 That gym look liked a dump to others, but when I saw TOUGH GYM, I thought it was perfect and beautiful. It was exactly what I wanted to build for athletes. I took out a notepad, paused the DVD player and started sketching the … [Read more...]
