Yesterday I was so fired up from reading a newspaper article about Karate Legend, Gary Alexander training harder than most people half his age at age 81, so of course, I HAD to try it myself. Gary Alexander was a Karate instructor where I grew up in Edison, NJ in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. Today, he is in his 80s, STILL training like a madman. Here's his current regime: With scuba fins on his feet, Alexander does 100 laps, mostly on his back, alternating with freestyle strokes. The … [Read more...]
I’m Just Passionate
I'm extremely passionate about everything I do. I have NO clue how it all began but as long as I can remember, whenever I got into something, I went full force and gave it my all. I've noticed that being passionate gets you into trouble sometimes. "Normal" people call me crazy. Passion and Genuinely Caring for the success of others is something that is in my heart, I can't be changed and I can't be stopped. This week has been an amazing week of opportunities. I have gone through some tough … [Read more...]
The TRUTH About Getting Jacked & Why The Iron NEVER Lies
Over 10 years later, I am still shocked with how strong I got and how much muscle I packed on when I trained in my parents garage. I bought a 300 lb weight set from CostCo, had a pair of 50 and 100 lb dumbbells, a flat utility bench and flimsy, cheap squat rack, aka a gun rack. Let me further explain.... ALL Truth.... … [Read more...]

Monday Motivation: How Bad Do You REALLY Want It?
I am a highly motivated Coach. I feel this is a fault, perhaps not though? You can comment below and drop your thoughts as my mind wanders too much. I find myself louder, more aggressive and more intense than 99.9% of my athletes. I want them to train harder, rest less, move heavier weights. I sometimes wonder why I am so loud and excited and they seem so quiet. I try to calm down and let them take the wheel. I wait to see if they will have intrinsic motivation. A few are animals and show the … [Read more...]
World’s Strongest Athlete 2010, Memories, Gratitude & Times Ahead
Team Underground has been competing in Strongman Competitions held by Joe DeFranco since Day 1. I believe the first one was 4 years ago in the parking lot of Joe's Gym. It was held after an Elite FTS Seminar where Jim Wendler & Dave Tate were present. I still remember getting a 600 lb tire 3 or 4 days before the event so our guys could practice the tire flip. The tire was old and grimy and the guys couldn't even grip the tire. It was the beginning stages of The Underground Strength Gym … [Read more...]
Upper Body Workout for Breakfast
On most Sunday Mornings I wake up before the entire house starts moving. I get dressed, brush teeth and head to The Underground. Sunday morning workouts keep me ahead of the pack, keep my edge and allow me to train and do something extra while the rest of the world is still sleeping. The Military Press is a GREAT way to start your day, especially on a Sunday morning. Locking heavy weights overhead forces your entire body to work overtime. Want REAL "core strength"? Lock heavy weights overhead … [Read more...]
Days of Thunder Bodybuilding…..
It was September of 1994. I was training at a now defunct gym, it was legit "hardcore", called Dynamic Fitness. Such a shame that it had to end, but it did. I'll never forget that gym. It shaped me and inspired me for a lifetime..... My friend and aspiring pro bodybuilder was there catching a workout and I told him of my plans to compete in a bodybuilding show for 1995. He said "Train with me, I'm doing the Jersey in April and we can train together". I was psyched! Andy was a freak. He was … [Read more...]
My Favorite Full Body Workout
I am returning home from a week long business and vacation. Aside from push ups, my body (and mind) are starving for a full body workout. The workout I'm gonna crank ASAP upon my return to The Underground is a favorite of mine and doesn't take much time at all. Hopefully you'll give it a shot yourself: 1) Begin with the 1 arm dumbbell snatch. Hit 1 - 3 reps each side, then move up in weight. 2) Continue to repeat the 1 Arm DB Snatch until it becomes too heavy. Once the dumbbell is too … [Read more...]
