Woops, almost forgot about this BEAUTY thanks to my insane schedule :) Check out this beautiful vintage gym in a south jersey basement. I snagged about 600 lbs of vintage strength weights from this gentleman. I need to clean them up a tad and my son will be getting 4 or 5 VERY vintage York barbells for him to use. Could there be anything more amazing than some old york weights in your hands? OK, never mind, don't answer that question. Anyway, check this amazing video, and if you love … [Read more...]

Old School Strength Training Rules, Period!
Today I was about to close up shop at the gym until an old friend strolled in to wish me a happy birthday. Johnny and I competed against each other in the 1995 Teenage Mr. NJ! That was a loooong time ago. We both competed in the middleweight division which means we were under 176 lbs! Johnny showed up today weighing 250 and looking lean and mean. Me? I think I'm hovering near 220. We spoke about his current regime of heavy squats, heavy deads, heavy military pressing, 120 lb dumbbell hammer … [Read more...]
Blasting the Iron with Passion!
The gym is the place where I lose myself and find myself. If I can start or finish my day in the gym, it's a way to know I did what others dared not do. I want to train and get after it when I'm in there alone. No excuses, No interruptions, No phone... NO bull shit. No matter what else is going on in this world and in my life, when I'm in the gym, everything goes right. Rusty iron feels best in my hands. Sandbags and stones show love as well. Time to attack training and … [Read more...]
Underground Strength Show # 62 & 63: Rusty Iron, NO Rules Workouts & Mental Toughness
Training doesn't have to be perfect for it to work. Often times, the imperfections are better because they train the mind AND the body as one. They force you to cope with the "resistance" that is more than just the weights. My methods are NOT perfect, they have flaws, but guess what, so does every program. The flaws are beautiful. The challenges are to be wished for. Be grateful for the tough times for anything worth achieving is worth fighting for. Sometimes you just gotta attack your … [Read more...]
Kill it with me, Playground Assault style!
I'm gonna hit the old playground this week before the REAL cold weather sets in. I'll toss a kettlebell in the back of my truck, a sandbag, some thick rope and the rest will be left up to Mother Nature :) I'm psyched to use the monkey bars, the parallel bars, free room to throw my kettlebell and tear into it any which way I desire. I love throwing kettlebells on the grass field for power development and work capacity. I'll definitely get sprints in there - sprints are undervalued … [Read more...]
How 2 Wrestlers & George Hackenschmidt Changed My Way Of Training
I got my hands on an old book in the early 2000s and it really pushed home the need & the power for simplicity in life, training and nutrition. In addition, the book also encouraged the need for basics. When I saw the rugged physique on the author, I was inspired beyond my words to say the least. The author was built like a brick sh-t house. Above, George Hackschmidt, Built Like A Brick Shit House George Hackenschmidt's workouts were often in the 30 - 45 minute range yet he trained on … [Read more...]

Cellar Dwellers & The STRONGEST Men You Don’t Know About
Are you a cellar dweller? I first heard of "Cellar Dwellers" through IronMind Magazine BUT my first experience came from my middle school days seeing a guy Deadlifting in front of his house. Snow was on the ground and he had a few homemade barbells set on the lawn next to his driveway. These weren't the normal barbells you see in a gym. They were cement wheels of various sizes. I was leaving school and walking out front to meet my older brother and there was this guy, deadlifting with … [Read more...]
