Since day one I have encouraged Football players to wrestle and vice versa. In the mid 90s, Coach Nis from Edison High School told me that he had a wrestler who took 4th in the Region tournament his sophomore and junior year. Back then, 4th place did NOT qualify you for the state tournament. Coach Nis told this wrestler to go out for the Football team his Senior year because he felt the wrestler was lacking grit and toughness. Coach Nis knew that tackling and hitting as well as getting hit … [Read more...]

Professionalism in The Strength Coach Profession
When I first began sharing / writing articles and creating work online, I garnered a few haters. Not too many haters, but the few who hated were actually well respected Strength Coaches. They may have forgotten what they said, but I did not forget :) When someone brought it to my attention I said to them, "Tell them not to worry about spending time bad mouthing me. I can see their blazing insecurity every time they have bad things to say. Besides, why do they feel so threatened by a guy … [Read more...]

I would read the bodybuilding books and magazines my brother had before I even began training. Unfortunately, those books were bodybuilding based. There were NO performance based training books available at the book stores. Unless I completely ignored them and only read what captured my attention. When I began coaching at a … [Read more...]
