Your Mission: Agile, Mobile & Hostile.... The REAL Men HAD it back in the day, The Golden Era & Old School times... Why were the Agile, Mobile & Hostile? How did they achieve the ultimate in performance AND appearance? Their approach was simple yet challenging.... They concentrated on a blend of strength, muscle building, raw power and athleticism. It wasn't enough to be able to squat, bench or deadlift heavy. NO, Sir, these men blended gymnastics, strongman training, feats of … [Read more...]
2 Things Every Man Should Do
As much as I LOVE bodyweight training I still use the deadlift and the squat in some form of another with added weight. When I bail on deadlifts and squats my legs get WEAK, and as a man, I have NO room for weakness. The squats and deads help me run faster and jump higher. Running is NOT my forte so anything that helps with my runs is a plus in my book. Even if you don't squat or deadlift till your eye balls pop out of your head, that's fine, the main thing is that you do "The Thing". In Pavel's … [Read more...]
The Power Behind Bodyweight Bodybuilding Playground Workouts
I am getting more and MORE hyped on Bodyweight Training. I feel GREAT attacking the calisthenics and with warmer weather especially, it is perfect for training outdoors to rejuvenate mind, body & spirit. The cold is not to be feared either, the Russian athletes often trained outdoors for a warm up and fresh air on a regular basis. You can see it in the Video below as well. I have been hunting for better playgrounds all around NJ since 2002. Sometimes I bring a kettlebell and mix the … [Read more...]
A Day in My Life
Not EVERY post on this Blog will be about lifting. I don't think lifting is the end all be all, perhaps you've heard me use the phrase, 'Kick Ass in Life AND Lifting'? If not, read the book HERE! Here's a bit of my day and how things are rolling for me lately... I've had a slam packed day and normally I do more work, but today was different. Many ask me how I get so much done and still have so much passion and energy on top of such a hectic schedule. Well, # 1, I focus on my passion, … [Read more...]
Are You Evolving?
I see MANY Strength Coaches REFUSING to evolve in their training. They sit back and poke fun at others, talk shit and act as if their methods are the end all be all method for training. They are NOT evolving. As an athlete, a Coach, a human being... you must evolve. My training is evolving BIG time right now, my warm ups are getting longer and longer, evolving into play AND training and I'm feeling 100 X better.... My lifestyle is also changing. I've gotten back to doing what I USED to do … [Read more...]
Fighting Against the Norms of Being Strong, Slow & Weak
I gotta address something ASAP, this is becoming a BIGGER and BIGGER problem. I'm sure this will anger many and then we'll have a few that can argue against this but it's time to unleash some TRUTH. It's starting to piss me off because we have all these "strong" people who can't perform in the "Real World". I'm done with simply chasing a bigger bench, squat and deadlift and you need to end that route as well unless you're a powerlifter and willing to live with the pain that comes with … [Read more...]
When Are You Strong Enough?
The question has been asked MANY times, and, I've posted similar to what I'm about to get into. Check this video as I answer the common question, "How do I Know when I am strong enough?" The REAL Answer: We can always become stronger or improve performance. Strength is skill / technique, so, adding weight or reps isn't the only way to demonstrate greater strength. Check the vid below and then drop a comment with your own thoughts. What about my Top 10 Bodyweight Exercises? I told … [Read more...]
Navy SEAL Training Tips
Not everyone wants to powerlift or use strongman training. Not everyone wants to throw heavy shit on their back or rip heavy shit off the ground. Hey, I can understand that AND respect it. I KNOW strength can be achieved through bodyweight workouts only. … [Read more...]
Prison Strength Training & Convict Conditioning
MANY years ago (2005 or 2006) I took a trip to the prison where the movie Lock Up was filmed with Sly Stallone. I wanted to learn how the inmates trained. In a nut shell, I was hungry to learn from anyone who was strong, fast and powerful. I had seen a documentary on how inmates are training every day and I found out a friend of mine had a family member who was a LT working with "The Lifers". This friend of mine introduced me to her Dad who was open to bringing me in to chat with these guys … [Read more...]
The Power Of Calisthenics & Convict Conditioning Inspiration
Above, Kyle and Cory Markovitch who train at The Underground Strength Gym hit the 1,000 Pul Up Club before Wrestling Season ended. GREAT kids with GREAT work ethic! BOTH were state qualifiers during their time as NJ High School Wrestlers for Cranford High School. __________ The power behind bodyweight training is tremendous. Not enough athletes and coaches give bodyweight training enough respect. It hit me the hardest as to WHY it's so important when I had a Football Player unable to do … [Read more...]
