Don't think you need to train your arms? Guess again. Many "EXPERTS" state the arms are worked adequately from upper body compound lifts. Return of The Golden Era Bodybuilding Workout
Golden Era bodybuilding is a far cry from many of the bodybuilding methods of today. Today we see circus tricks and pump up weights. The lack of strength focused work is why the bodybuilders of The Golden Era had that thick, dense, rugged physique. The bodybuilders of today rely on chemical warfare rather than building a physique that stays with you for a lifetime. The Golden & Silver Era bodybuilders focused on free weights, heavy lifting, hard work on the basics and no fads or … [Read more...]
Kickin’ Ass & Takin’ Names at 35 Years Young
I remember seeing the movie, 'Predator', when I was maybe 8 years old. It was for my older brother's birthday party in a now dead movie theatre, Amboy Cinemas. I loved that movie and did push ups as soon as I got home. The BIG guys in the movie inspired me. Even as a young kid I was motivated by being BIGGER. Some 27 years ago....Even at age 8, I wanted to be cool and tough. Still working on it :) But, as I get older by the numbers I refuse to give in to the "regularities" that come with age. … [Read more...]
STRONG Life Forever: 3 Lessons to Lift & Learn More
After training for so many years (decades) since 1989, there is one thing about me that will simply NEVER die. I'm ALL about the iron. It doesn't matter what shape or size the weights are, I don't discriminate, I just love to lift. I get better with age, and the reason being is because I ALWAYS Lift and I ALWAYS Learn. I have found MANY people are simply close minded. They don't want to learn. They always respond, But this is how I've / we've always done _________ (fill in the … [Read more...]

If you've been following me for some time, perhaps you've heard of my troubled past, my struggles in life. Most wouldn't guess or perhaps would think I'm lying, when I speak of my struggles through depression while in high school and my freshman year in college. 21 Stories in 21 Years
After lifting for 21 years and having gone through quite the gamut of training methods, training tools, near death experiences and plenty of pain and pleasure mixed in I have learned quite a lot.... A lot in regards to training AND life through these 2 decades. 1) I used to do my homework in the gym. I just wanted to be amongst the weights. If I opened one of my books in the classroom you would find FLEX magazine inside the book. I couldn't get my mind off lifting and being in the gym. 2) … [Read more...]
How To Kick Ass & Take Names in Life & The Pursuit of Happiness
"Kick Ass & Take Names in Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness" The quote above is something that is ALWAYS running through my head and something I wholeheartedly believe in. I believe life should be lived the way you want it to and that there is NOTHING wrong with going for your dreams and living life on your own terms, NO need to follow the rules of others or conform to what others believe to be right or wrong. Normal People achieve normal success and live normal … [Read more...]
Strength BEFORE the Internet
Before the internet, the world of strength and serious bodybuilding was in it's very own little world. A small culture of people who shocked the rest of the world for doing what they did: - Lifting HEAVY and straining the body - Eating like Gladiators - Transforming their body / Growing Muscles that stretched shirts - The ability to perform feats of strength Well, after this weekend's USC Cert, we had a few guys in attendance who were in their 20s and they had never seen the … [Read more...]
The Power of Cross Training for Athletes
I've always encouraged athletes to cross train with various training methods and through the use of various sports, even on a recreational level. I encourage my Football players to wrestle and vice versa. I encourage BOTH wrestlers and Football players to train in Judo, run trails, practice Gymnastics and more. We need MORE athleticism NOT less. Look at what Martin Rooney says with regards to athletes utilizing 'Training for Warriors' even if they are not combat athletes. Comments or … [Read more...]
Training for Warriors
Martin gave me a little taste of a simple Hurricane Workout as his fighters were close to fight night. I test drove 1 round of the Hurricane and it was rough, even with the light weights. Running on a treadmill felt a bit awkward as I am used to hills, streets, grass and trails. Look how calm these guys stay during the intense training and watch me get my ass kicked :) Many have asked about Martin's protocols for training MMA fighters and other combat athletes. Obviously, to describe it in a … [Read more...]
