Guest Post by Shawn Charlebois, CUSC L1 Somebody much smarter than me once said “We Are What We Repeatedly Do”. I don’t know about you but I want to be strong. I did a lot of growing up in jail. My real education took place between the block walls of Central North Correctional Center. I did 8 years inside and during that time I got to do a few critical things: KNOW MYSELF KNOW WHAT I STAND FOR BE CONSISTENT WITH MY EFFORTS & CHARACTER These 3 key factors are the building … [Read more...]
Training For ‘The Obstacle Is THE Way’
'The Obstacle Is The Way' Book Sketch by Sacha Chua I had a horrific night of sleep. I was up around 1 AM and stared at the ceiling until 3 AM until I said F--K it, time to get out of bed and do Work. I was exhausted after dropping my kids off at school and started coming up with EVERY excuse in the book to NOT train today. I'll train tomorrow Training when tired is bad This workout will be wasted if I train today Take a nap instead I decided to use my fatigue as a reason to DO … [Read more...]
Developing A TOUGH Mindset for Greater Success In ALL Areas Of Life
Last Thursday after shoulder surgery I was starting to act like an a--hole. My arm was completely shut down and numb from the anesthesia nerve block and The Doc told me I would not have the ability to move my left arm for about 24 hrs. No problem, right? It was amazing how I allowed my mind to crumble for a few moments as I began to complain about how my sling is choking my neck and other trivial, pathetic things. I needed someone to punch me in the face so I could wake up and realize that … [Read more...]
Winning Is MORE Important Than Being Politically Correct
Above, Thanksgiving Morning at The Edison, NJ Underground Strength Gym. No Apologies for Having High Expectations for These Athletes In Sports AND In Life. _________ Success is NOT an accident. The encouragement to "outwork the competition" is no longer OK. It is not politically correct. Hard work will offend people, even if they don't actually do the work, they are offended when you tell the truth and say, "You're lazy, work harder and stop sucking." This is the new era where people are … [Read more...]
Don’t Play The Age Card & My 40th Birthday Workout
I was on the phone with my buddy, AJ Roberts, a former world record holder in Powerlifting while he was a member at Westside Barbell, aka The Strongest Gym in the World. We were talking training, life, business, the usual..... We got to the training talk and I mentioned something about how I feel and he said, "Oh man, you're already playing that age card!" He was right. I was 38 or 39 at the time and I made up some poor excuse about training, how I feel because of my age and then proceeded … [Read more...]
Small Victories for Mental Toughness
"Just find an excuse to WIN." When I want to build my mental toughness a mere extra 1%, I don't view the big goal, I take it 1 small step at a time. If I'm running, just get to the next telephone pole.... If I'm hitting a set of 20 rep squats, just get to 8, then 10, then 12.... When I get to 20.... I do 1 more, a few more times. It all adds up and these small victories build upon themselves, building momentum and in turn, greater mental toughness. During a recent training session with 1 of … [Read more...]

Training to Be HARDER to Kill
I'm finishing up a week here in Florida with my kids. It's the first time we're without the wifey and let me tell ya, the first few days were brutal..... Emotionally, we're used to operating as a team..... I had to dig deep in ways I never experienced before to help my kids feel safe and strong, especially my daughter, who went to an intensive Tennis camp, 3 hours every morning for 5 days straight. If you have experience with intensive training, the type that exhausts you on all fronts … [Read more...]
The Iron NEVER Lies
It was just me and my best Dude. My son. We were going out to eat that night with our friends and I remembered what kind of person I was last time I missed my workout. I wasn't the most pleasant person to be around, let's put it that way. I knew if I could get in a few deadlifts and some calisthenics I would tame my inner animal for at least the next few hours. My son was with me and we had less than 20 minutes to spare. He went into the office and turned on the TV. It reminded me of Henry … [Read more...]
3 Reasons To Train Like A SAVAGE
Men need to train like uncontrolled savages & stop being so damn pretty when it comes to training & workouts. Start doing this at least SOME of the time. Not all of the time, but 1 x week, make it happen. Intense, Uncomfortable, Tough Workouts are GREAT for the mind AND body. The body is always capable of more, but through those perfect workouts that follow the perfect program design system and the best sets and reps, you NEVER truly develop your Inner Savage. I love telling the … [Read more...]
