Grease The Groove is a technique I learned many years ago when reading a book from Pavel, Power To The People. Essentially, you perform an exercise of choice several times a day, several times a week (4 - 7 x week), each and every set performed when you are fresh without going to muscular fatigue. Usually, this works best when performing the practice exercise for anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks. There are several ways to apply Grease The groove (GTG) for maximum effect. … [Read more...]
Bodyweight Bodybuilding Inspiration Winners
This is TOUGH! ALL the videos from The Bodyweight Bodybuilding Inspiration Contest moved me, inspired me and some really touched my heart. During these inspiration contests I realize how tough it is to choose just one prize winner. This is when being "The Judge" kinda sucks, ha ha The last few hours of the inspiration contest we must have gotten 20 or so video submissions for The Bodyweight Bodybuilding Inspiration Contest. It was a whirlwind of people submitting videos last … [Read more...]
Is Modern Day Man A Disgrace?
"WHAT IF......" - What if one day you can't get to the gym? You're too busy, "life" happened.... Now what? - What if one day you show up and your gym is locked.... maybe out of business, shut down? Would you wait until tomorrow? Would you wait for the perfect moment.... the perfect workout.... when the time and the place were just right? … [Read more...]
The Power Behind Push Ups
I always tell my athletes, "Eat your push ups & pull ups for breakfast!" You MUST be GREAT at these 2 exercises, they are the foundation for upper body strength and power and work wonders for muscle building. I recently got a copy of The Convict Conditioning Push Up Series Course and the FIRST thing that struck me was all the coaching techniques, regressions and progressions. I am ALWAYS shocked when I have athletes at my gym who trained elsewhere and they are NOT performing the … [Read more...]
Herschel Walker, My Truth & EVERYONE’S Truth
Last week, during the holidays I was in Disney with the family. Since we drove, I had LOTS of FREE time to catch up on stuff I rarely get to do.... watch TV. So I kicked back and found some old documentaries on YouTube. When I watch TV, I LOVE finding stuff that inspires me.... NO time for negative, energy sucking BS. … [Read more...]
Don’t Get Stuck Being Strong AND Useless
In a recent interview I was listening to between Mike Robertson and NFL Strength Coach Joe "House" Kenn, Joe was asked an interesting question. He was asked what he would like to see more of AND what he wishes he focused on in his younger years. His answer was...... MORE Bodyweight Training, More Playground Workouts and the ability to Move your Own Bodyweight. I've personally deadlifted over 500 lbs, squatted 455 for reps, benched over 300 lbs and at 220 lbs can perform 25 pull ups … [Read more...]
Are You Stronger Than an Idiot aka Learning From Injuries?
Time to lay down the law on those who listen and especially those who are "good enough" and only listen to a select few. Remember, to achieve greater success you must acquire the mindset of "always a white belt". The Learning NEVER ends. I've been there and done that & it led to a road called injured in a town called weakness. This past week, I cranked 4 workouts this week, ALL of them stronger than the week before. Progress is running smoother than ever. Mind you, I NEVER … [Read more...]
The TRUTH About Bodyweight Workouts
Franco Columbu was a BEAST when it came to pull ups. He cranked them from all angles AND added weight to them as well. High reps AND low reps. Reminds me of my OLD Bodybuilding training partner.... We almost always began our workouts with chins and progressed to weighted chins. He would build up to chin ups with THREE 45 lb plates strapped to a weight belt. His back was THICK! It freaked people out! Heavy Chins and HEAVY barbell rows were his ticket. Back to the legend of Franco … [Read more...]
Navy SEAL Training Tips
Not everyone wants to powerlift or use strongman training. Not everyone wants to throw heavy shit on their back or rip heavy shit off the ground. Hey, I can understand that AND respect it. I KNOW strength can be achieved through bodyweight workouts only. … [Read more...]
Prison Strength Training & Convict Conditioning
MANY years ago (2005 or 2006) I took a trip to the prison where the movie Lock Up was filmed with Sly Stallone. I wanted to learn how the inmates trained. In a nut shell, I was hungry to learn from anyone who was strong, fast and powerful. I had seen a documentary on how inmates are training every day and I found out a friend of mine had a family member who was a LT working with "The Lifers". This friend of mine introduced me to her Dad who was open to bringing me in to chat with these guys … [Read more...]
