When Can A Man STOP Training?
The temp was 29 degrees, Winter had finally set in. I was up that morning at 6 AM, took care of the wife and kids and then drove to The Underground Strength Gym of Manasquan, NJ. I cranked the heat for 10 minutes, no longer. I don't wanna spoil myself with a cozy gym. F--K that. I got warmed up and got to work. Some smashing on the rumble roller. Some light band work for the upper body and lower body. I had been thinking of this workout since Sunday Morning, some 24 hrs prior. As I was … [Read more...]
Developing A TOUGH Mindset for Greater Success In ALL Areas Of Life
Last Thursday after shoulder surgery I was starting to act like an a--hole. My arm was completely shut down and numb from the anesthesia nerve block and The Doc told me I would not have the ability to move my left arm for about 24 hrs. No problem, right? It was amazing how I allowed my mind to crumble for a few moments as I began to complain about how my sling is choking my neck and other trivial, pathetic things. I needed someone to punch me in the face so I could wake up and realize that … [Read more...]
Why I Chase The Challenge VS Running From Challenges
I probably hated my Coaches at the time.... Called them names.... Got angry with them.... That was high school. Today, all I do is say "Thank you" for how hard they pushed me. They broke me down and built me into who I am today. From my knee injuries, to a broken nose, a torn rotator cuff.... I can trace back almost all of my success today to the lessons learned through the tough times in my high school wrestling room from 1989 - 1993. You must FEAR the comfort..... … [Read more...]
Winning Is MORE Important Than Being Politically Correct
Above, Thanksgiving Morning at The Edison, NJ Underground Strength Gym. No Apologies for Having High Expectations for These Athletes In Sports AND In Life. _________ Success is NOT an accident. The encouragement to "outwork the competition" is no longer OK. It is not politically correct. Hard work will offend people, even if they don't actually do the work, they are offended when you tell the truth and say, "You're lazy, work harder and stop sucking." This is the new era where people are … [Read more...]
Training to Be HARDER to Kill
I'm finishing up a week here in Florida with my kids. It's the first time we're without the wifey and let me tell ya, the first few days were brutal..... Emotionally, we're used to operating as a team..... I had to dig deep in ways I never experienced before to help my kids feel safe and strong, especially my daughter, who went to an intensive Tennis camp, 3 hours every morning for 5 days straight. If you have experience with intensive training, the type that exhausts you on all fronts … [Read more...]
The Iron NEVER Lies
It was just me and my best Dude. My son. We were going out to eat that night with our friends and I remembered what kind of person I was last time I missed my workout. I wasn't the most pleasant person to be around, let's put it that way. I knew if I could get in a few deadlifts and some calisthenics I would tame my inner animal for at least the next few hours. My son was with me and we had less than 20 minutes to spare. He went into the office and turned on the TV. It reminded me of Henry … [Read more...]
3 Reasons You Must Attack Deadlifts & Calisthenics
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_aSMy9RQyk Give me nothing but a Barbell and I will Build a BadAss. Do you have the discipline, drive and dedication to train with nothing but a barbell? If you do, then we can make it happen. But the truth is that MOST don't desire the simplicity. They crave the fancy. They crave the fads. If my business could be run like a simple training hall we can certainly weed out the not so serious. Add some bodyweight bodybuilding aka calisthenics and now we have a … [Read more...]
Deadlifts, Rocky & Navy SEAL Inspiration
-- Strength Today VS Strength of Yesterday -- When I was a teenager, strength was measured in numbers. Numbers on the bar. That's all. Then, when I reached my 20s, I began viewing strength differently. I attached strength to more than just the numbers I was lifting. I measured my strength in pain tolerance, in making training partners quit and in going that extra step just when I thought I should stop. … [Read more...]
